Pickens County School District Strengthens School Safety with GeoComm’s Interactive Indoor Mapping Solution

Pickens County, GA, April 2, 2026: Pickens County School District has taken a major step forward in enhancing school safety by implementing GeoComm’s School Safety mapping solution. Serving approximately 4,000 students across eight campuses, the school district partnered with GeoComm to map over 875,000 square feet of indoor space. The project was completed in just 90 days and provides district staff and first responders with a real-time, interactive map of every campus.

Before partnering with GeoComm, Pickens County relied on a mix of outdated maps and Excel-based drawings created by staff to fill gaps left by lost blueprints and building renovations. This approach made it clear the district needed accurate, current mapping to strengthen emergency preparedness and comply with Georgia’s House Bill 268.

“GeoComm made a real difference for our district,” said Mrs. Jennifer Wilson, Communications and Safety Supervisor for Pickens County School District. “Their interactive maps aren’t just visuals; they’re practical tools that help us guide first responders directly into our schools and allow administrators to plan for both everyday activities and emergencies.”

Since implementation, the benefits have been immediate. 9-1-1 calls now display precise indoor locations, enabling dispatchers and school resource officers to respond faster. Collaboration between schools and first responders has improved, giving everyone access to the same, accurate information.

“The hands-on support from GeoComm’s team was exceptional,” Mrs. Wilson added. “Walking every part of our buildings with their staff ensured the maps were accurate, and their guidance made the implementation seamless.”

GeoComm’s solution stands out for its engagement, usability, and versatility compared to other tools the district explored. The interactive maps go beyond emergency response, providing everyday operational value, while fostering a stronger connection between school safety planning and emergency response.

“What stood out about Pickens County was their hands-on involvement and commitment to getting this right,” said Bill McCullough, VP of Sales and Marketing at GeoComm. “They didn’t treat mapping as a checkbox, they treated it as a shared responsibility between schools and public safety, and that mindset is what truly strengthens preparedness.”

With GeoComm’s interactive indoor mapping solution, Pickens County School District continues to lead in school safety innovation, ensuring that every campus is equipped to respond effectively and efficiently when it matters most.
